The holidays are right around the corner, and you’re probably already thinking about how to decorate your home for this year’s festivities. Between Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas and more, being organized is super helpful and alleviates a ton of headaches. It can be a little overwhelming at first if you’ve never organized holiday decorations. With some planning and organization, you’ll have everything in place before the main event.

There are different ways to go about organizing your holiday decor. Read our blog to learn how you can make the holidays more about decorating and less about stress!

Wreaths

We all know that wreaths are a popular decoration that can adorn many areas of the home for all holidays. It’s also an item that can be particularly bulky. Wreaths take up a lot of space and they can easily get tangled if not properly stored. The worst-case scenario is they get damaged without proper care and storage. Wreathes can be expensive, so you’ll want to make sure you store your wreath carefully so it lasts year after year.

Here are some ways you can store your wreaths:

  • Using clothing hangers can allow you to store multiple wreaths together. All you need to do is attach a string to the wreath. Then, simply hang the string over the hanger. You can even hang two wreaths on one hanger, back to back.
  • Another great way to organize your wreaths is by putting them inside wreath bags. These allow you to stack or hang wreaths without damaging them.
  • Under-the-bed storage containers with wheels make it easy to tuck wreaths away when you’re not using them. You’ll want to find a box that fits your wreath size. Don’t worry if there’s not enough height for under-the-bed storage- these risers can help.

Basements and Shelving

Storage containers are ideal for organizing your holiday decorations. Just a few tips before you start shopping.
There are so many different styles and types of containers. In order to save yourself from further headaches, you’ll want to measure the shelves so you can purchase containers that will fit the space, while maximizing your storage.

Purchasing the same containers is important, especially if you plan to stack them. Using all the same containers creates a visually attractive space, as well. Designating specific colors, like orange containers for Halloween, green for Christmas and so on, will quickly allow you to narrow down which boxes to pull out at the beginning of a season.

Labeling helps you find which decorations are in each tub. Since you may purge items from year to year, being able to easily change your label is a plus. The Cardinal Hold-It Labels are my favorite.

The Goal

The goal with any organizational project is figuring out how to achieve the desired result. We want to keep the items safe and easily accessible, so we have to figure out what will help achieve that goal. Being strategic with your purchasing of containers is key and will make the process much more rewarding.
